At the end of harvest, we had a lovely rain storm which left water on the cherries and with the combination of sun and water droplets on ripe cherries, they can split from the weight of the water droplets. So...renting a helicopter helps solve this dilemma, the blades blow off all of the water and the cherries won't split this way. Split cherries are thrown out as culls and you don't get paid for them. Sweet cherries are picked by hand but pie cherries are "shaken" off by machines so you're not far off Angie! All of our cherries are sweet varieties.

What's the chopper for? Does it beat the cherries off of the trees?
