To say that Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) has impacted our lives is an understatement. When our daughter became a statistic, we began to look at life differently. We try not to take as much for granted, mainly our health, and especially that very important pump inside our chests. So here are the statistics...
- CHD's affect 1 in 100 babies
- CHD's are the #1 birth defect world wide and #1 cause of birth defect related deaths
- Nearly twice as many children die from Congenital Heart Defects in the United States each year as from all forms of childhood cancers combined
Yes, it's a big deal. A really big deal if your child is living with a broken heart. It's underfunded, there is no cure, and early diagnosis is the key to survival. Why isn't this life-threatening disease more of a priority in our society?

I think it is going to have to be up to us to raise awareness and the dollars. Sadly there is no national organization and the American Heart association focuses on adult.
I was diagnosed with a CHD as an infant and had surgery almost 40 years ago. While my heart does not work like anyone else's - it does work. I'm going to post your stats on my FB wall. Thanks for spreading awareness!
You are spreading awareness and fighting for heart babies and people. Oh, your Maddie has affected me in more ways than you know. Your FAITH, inspiration and appreciation for life has affected me in a huge way. A lunch date or coffee in February? I would love it! Oh and have you heard about Art Garden Pottery..neat new place in Moses Lake! Love to you!
Katie,
I would love it if you would post on your site, the name of the association so a person can donate money to aid in the awareness of CHD.
I love your posts. Big hugs to the kids.
