What a difference a month makes. Maddie was 6 weeks yesterday and I'd just like to share with you a "before" and "after" of her. Her surgery was a little over a month ago. This is her, 2 days after her open heart surgery. Swollen, sedated, scarred and on support to live. I had never posted the worst pictures because I was having a rough time then, afraid of what was to come and in complete shock, even though I thought I'd prepared myself. It was hard seeing my brand new baby look like this. Somewhere under all of the lines and tubes was my Maddie. Most of it is a blur now. I'd also contemplated posting these because I thought Madison would someday hate me for it. But this is part of her heart journey and where she's been. Her story is not complete without them and it's a reminder of how far she's come, just a little over 1month ago... It's truly amazing and a miracle of how fast and how well she's recovered. We are so blessed and very lucky with the path of recovery we've been on. I knock on wood every time I pass a piece of furniture! I hate to say this, but I await our "hurdle" since she's done so amazingly well. She is not the "typical" hypoplastic right heart baby. Now, a little over a month later...you would never tell that she has only half of her heart working by looking at her. She does sleep a lot and she's much more spoiled at this age (wants held all of the time!!!) but most babies are like this, aren't they? She's doing all of the things that a normal baby does, notice the hands doing "wax on, wax off" motions and the total concentration on her face! Too cute! I also have to note that my pictures DO NOT do her justice... Anyway, I just wanted to reminisce on the progress she's made and I know a lot of it has to do with her but I do give my praises to God...He's been so good and answered many, many prayers. What a difference Maddie's journey has made in all of our lives!

Wow. There is barely enough room on her to hook all that stuff up to. Amazing what she had to go thru and she looks like it never happened. She is changing with every picture you post. She has done so well. I am sure it is hard to not worry about what could come but we can't live like that. Easier said than done I know. It is something a mother only knows. I worry daily about crazy things with Garrett that I just can't help. You are an amazing mommy and Maddie is an amazing little girl...
Love ya, Randee
Dear Katie and Maddie,
Maddie is a "miracle"-held in the hands of God, many times. Her journey and yours will be forever etched in my brain. Not a day goes by that I don't say "Glory be to God", and thank Him for His pure grace.
I love you both, so much.
Mama
Katie, Your last sentence is soo true. Maddie has touched us all in some way. Thank you for helping us (reminding us), to take life one day at a time and cherish everything God brings to us. She is an amazing little girl with the help of a fantastic mom (and dad) and a Great God! Thank you for sharing Maddie's story with us. Continued prayers are coming your way. Love, Michelle Dan Ty and Colin
Amen to everything you said Katie. Love you all. It's Saturday afternoon and I just realized I didn't send Jace's packet--forgive me and tell him it's in the mail first thing monday morning.
Oh my, Katie. Your Baby...Maddie is amazing and so is your entire family. I'm sure I can speak for all readers when I thank you for strengthening our faith during Maddie's journey.

Katie ~
We love you and we love Maddie. This pics are hard to see, but serve as justification that we take way to much for granted and we all need to step back and cherish all the little things in life. Maddie has taught us all so much about faith & the power of beleiving. She's a true miracle. You're patience and strength and courage are just as amazing. . . the two of you were meant for each other. We love you all. Take care.
