Maddie's hands have a lot of meaning for me. I remember one of the first things I studied on Maddie, that first night of getting to be with her, was her sweet little hands. So dainty and delicate. When she clinched her tiny fingers around mine, my heart just melted. One of my all-time favorite moments with her. After those first days post surgery, her hands were the only thing I could hold and caress when I couldn't pick up and hold my sweet baby in my arms. And how Maddie has used her hands has been so different from my boys. Theirs were always clenched into fists as babies, rough, tough and stubby. Maddie's remind me of a ballerina's! She's so dainty with them and always has her fingers pointed just so! Such a difference to my boys' hands and fingers! One of those major differences between boys and girls! Did I mention that she loves them? She sucks her left thumb (got the idea from big brother Cade) but it's great that she can console herself so easily...we'll worry about it in about 5 years! These pictures catch a small glimpse of Maddie's precious hands and my infatuation for them.

What a beautiful post Katie. You have a nice way with words. She does have sweet little hands. Michelle
I think I have the same thoughts about Izzie's hands. (Maybe I should just copy part of your post, since you always right so well.) Every night when she falls asleep, I just hold on to her little hand and stare at this amazing person in my arms before I put her down.
P.S. I have noticed the same thing about Izzie being more dainty with her hands than her brothers were.
Yea! You have a thumb sucker. That is so nice for you and Maddie. (You can just deal with breaking the habit by promising that Santa will bring a tractor. It worked for Derek at 4 years old - just thought I'd give that as a tip...)
Maddie is so amazing. When you consider that your heart is roughly the size of your fist (no matter your gender or age) it give a whole new meaning to the phrase "precision surgery."

I love the "thumb sucker" pose. I was a thumb sucker, but none of my kids have followed suite. Sometimes I wish they would so I didn't have to deal with dirty pacifiers.
I love hands too. (Maybe that's why I married one!) I have a precious picture of Natalie's tiny hand curled around Tim's right after she was extubated and so frail.
I'm so glad you wrote about this. It reminded me of my Mary Clare. As a younger infant, she always held her hands together just under her chin as if praying. We laughed about it then, but it also made us remember the strength of prayer. Thank you for bringing back that memory of her! Love, Kerri
It's so interesting that you wrote about hands this post. Not to long ago I had an opportunity to be in a room with a bunch of "older and wiser" women, and I was noticing everyones hands. I actually teared up when I thought about how much work and tender care those twisted, wrinkled hands had done. How many hours of service for their families and others, how many babies they had soothed, loved ones buried, meals cooked for others, and so on. It was quite touching. Miss. Maddie has a great work ahead of her and those beautiful hands will certainly come in "handy"!
